The production notes and musings of a performance art manic-curist, hell bent on achieving world peace by unburdening people of their long held, deep, dark secrets, one set of nails at a time...
...who would like to walk this earth with as few things to confess, reveal or disclose as possible.
...who would like peeps to not feel burdened by the weight of information they carry in secret.
Tawds is the creation of artist James Berlyn. This blog is for him a kind of emotional archive about the project and about being Tawds. It is one component of a multi-format art project.
James would say that "Tawdry Heartburns Manic Cures" is departure from his nomal process and was made in response to a few inspirations in the area of confessional art; Frank Warren's Post Secret looms wonderfully large, however unlike that work, James wanted to make a very intimate, live performance with a single audience member before they get to the moment of disclosure.
James also loves the work of PVI Collective and was particularly inspired by a symposium they ran a while back about hybridism and digital arts.
As a performance artist he works across a few disciplines, and he wanted to make a work that could encompass new modalities and technologies (for him at least) and attempt to do something kewl that would also be accessible and very portable.
